Cleaning area rugs was always a stressful job for me. Then I thought of doing some research on it. To my surprise, I found that it is actually not soo stressful as I was assuming it to be.

 

 

1. Clean it regularly: My mum always says –“do your cleaning work on daily basis”. Cleaning work if piled up becomes stressful. Moreover, from hygiene point of view also, it is important to clean the rug on daily basis. If done on regular basis it will hardly take 3-5 minutes of your time.

 

 

2. Vacuum the front of rug on daily basis while the back side can be vacuumed once in two weeks. DO NOT use vacuum on fringes.

 

 

3. Remove the pet hair: Usually a vacuum cannot remove the pet hair. So you need to brush out the pet hair.

 

 

4. Remove stains or spill instantly:

As soon as your area rug catches any stain, make sure to remove it instantly. All you need to do is –

a. Take laundry detergent and warm water

b. Soak 100% white cotton towel in the mixer

c. Press the soaked towel on the area rug. DO NOT rub it, just press the soaked towel at affected area d. Pour cold water after pressing e. Repeat the process until the stain or spill is completely removed

 

 

5. If your rugs is manageable to carry. You can keep the rug in sun once in a month for like 15 minutes. Heat produced by sunlight will naturally remove all sorts of bacteria present in it.

 

6. DO NOT use carpet shampoo or spray – Read the instructions carefully before using them. They are not meant for wool rugs.

Egyptian Cotton Sheets vs. Microfiber sheets.

I always wonder, why Egyptian cotton sheets are so very hyped. They might be good in quality but how to judge the whether the sheets are actually Egyptian cotton or not. This question use to always be on my mind whenever I use to buy sheets. I use to always feel cheated while purchasing any so called Egyptian cotton sheets especially with every online purchase. Then I finally decided to buy two sheets from a same store, one which they claim to be Egyptian cotton and other the normal microfiber sheets. To my surprise, I found the Microfiber sheets are much better to the price I paid for.



1.They are easy to wash: I personally felt that stains get easily removed from microfiber sheet than from any cotton sheets. Microfiber sheets have the polyester content in it, which I think helps in faster cleaning.


 

2.They are easy to iron: I really hate ironing. I feel it is utter waste of productive time. At least I would prefer reading a book over ironing the sheets. Microfiber sheets just require to be touched up with iron.


 

3.Price: Obviously the price is the main reason, for me getting attracted to Micro fibre sheets. They almost half the price of Egyptian cotton sheets.
 

4. Shrink: Since it is not pure cotton, I think that is the reason they don’t shrink. I have always experienced that no matter what cotton always shrinks.
 

5. Soft and Comfortable: Though comfort wise, I feel cotton sheets are better but I would not deny to the fact that even Microfiber sheets are soft as well as comfortable. I have never felt sort of discomfort with microfiber sheets.
 

6. Colour: Colour of microfiber sheets are better and shiner than the cotton sheets. You get better colour option with microfiber sheets over cotton sheets.
